I didn't know it at the time but Rainbow Springs was a theme
park back in the 60's and 70's. It closed in 1973. In 1989 the State of
Florida and Marion county purchased it. Volunteer helped clean and rebuild and
then reopened the park in 1995. The old animal
cages are still there. |

| Waterfalls in Florida? Rainbow Springs has them
.They were built back in the 30's. The best shots
are in the morning. Its like something out of a movie. |

|
One of the waterfalls is actually 60 feet
high. The rock used to construct it are from out of the river. Someone did a very good job! |

The water is the cleanest I have ever seen out of all the
springs I've been to. |

|
The swimming area is roped off but there's a couple sandboils
and spring to look at. |

|
| The campsites are not at Rainbow Springs. Its about a 15
minute drive away. I wish the sites had a little more privacy, you're right on top
of your neighbor's site. You're only allowed 2 tents don't even attempt more.
But hey its just a place to eat and sleep. ( And drink but don't get caught ) |

The one cool thing about this campground is that right from your
campsite you can throw a tube in the water and start tubing. It takes about 4
hours. BRING SUNSCREEN!!!! If you're lucky you can do it in 3 and a half.
We
did see Gators! But its worth it!!! |

|
| Rainbow Spring is not just one big spring, it's several . 500
million gallons of water per day! Just about everywhere you look there's a spring.
Most of them are small but there's some serious water flowing through there.
Bring your fins! |

There's a lot of plant life around as well. I didn't see any big
fish but my friends said they did. You can watch the grass on the bottom flowing
like trees in the wind. |
