The first time I ever went to this place I thought to myself "this is going to be boring". Well I was wrong! This is one of our favorite places now. If you want to see gators this place has them, big small oh ya there are some gators here! The first night one came right up to the campsite on the other side of this canal.
Next day we took the swamp buggy ride. It was outstanding 3.5 hours. On the ride we found out that the last Red Wolf in Florida was killed here and that the only North American parrot was hunted to extinction here.
After the buggy ride we waited until night time. This park is so far from any light source that you have a clear view of all the stars in the sky. They have this killer telescope that looks like R2D2 from Star Wars, built in computer built in GPS. We got to look at Jupiter, the rings of Saturn and a Nebula. For a State Park this place is a must see.
Campground has 22 sites. Bathrooms are clean and new!!!!

The fish are small but if you like to just do catch and release you'll catch about 20 fish in a hour.

There is a small country store about 20 to 30 minutes away.

If you like hiking you'll love this place. 130 miles of trails. Horseback riding as well. This trail took us to 7 mile slough, part river part ditch.
Big Gator Country here!!! You'll find them everywhere. And if you're camping there are no dogs allowed. Gee I wonder why?
Well we like to swim and there was no place to swim, wonder why? So we made our own pool. Highly recommended in the summertime!
$15.00 will get you on the swamp buggy. Do it ! It's worth every penny. We got to dig up fossils and saw a couple  herds of deer. The picture on the left in the trees is where cowboys used to take a break. You can find all sorts of stuff in there.

This ain't what I want. Take me back to the home page
